Ten years after its opening, the ROW DTLA complex seems to have found its place in the Los Angeles landscape, establishing itself as a destination that blends fashion, food, culture, and experiences.
Built between 1917 and 1923 by the Southern Pacific Railroad as the LA Terminal Market, the site was intended for the distribution of fresh produce throughout California. The market, called 7th Street Produce Market, was one of the largest wholesale markets in the United States at the time. Later becoming the headquarters of the American Apparel brand, the site was transformed in 2016 by Atlas Capital Group into a modern, walkable complex featuring creative workspace, retail, outdoor greenspaces, event venues, and restaurants amid nearly two million square feet of space. Karen Yi, director of marketing and events, looks back at the site's development and its challenges for the future.
